About Traveling Tracks
Brad Zabelski -- Owner/Chief Audio Engineer & Mastering Engineer
I would like to give you some background information about myself and my experience in both the fields of music and audio engineering. My first involvement with school band programs was in high school as a guitarist in the jazz ensemble, which led to summer study at Berklee College of Music in Boston. I decided on a career in music and after an audition at the Hartt School of Music, I was granted a performance scholarship to study classical guitar. During my years at Hartt, I was educated in music theory, harmony, history, and also music production and technology. I decided to further my education at the Omega School of Applied Recording Arts and Sciences, where I learned to operate state of the art professional recording consoles and achieved certification as a Pro Tools Digital Audio Workstation operator.
It was while I was a student at Omega, living in the Washington D.C. area that I discovered my passion for recording live music. The music scene in the city was thriving and this gave me the opportunity to record a wide variety of musical styles in many different environments. Only hours after my graduation from the Omega School in D.C., I started an internship at Soundtrack, one of New York City's most prominent recording studios. Working with some of the music industry's top professionals was inspiring and motivated me to launch my own business, Traveling Tracks.
In an effort to further advance my recording skills with large ensembles, and classical recording in general, I applied to the Aspen Music Festival and School for the Summer of 2001. I was granted full scholarship to both the Edgar Stanton Audio Recording Institute and the Schumann Film Scoring/Sound Design programs. For ten weeks, I indulged in the abundant resources, both musically and technically, as well as the wealth of information provided by our mentors. The compilation of educators, an invaluable team comprised of director Thomas Haines, AES President Ron Streicher, Neumann/Sennheiser specialist Juergen Wahl, and Grammy winning engineer John Earlge was good company to be in to say the least! Not to mention our special guests Jeff Rona of Hollywood's Media Ventures and Juilliard's Pulitzer Prize winning composer John Corigliano. The Aspen Music Festival is truly a world-wide musical treasure!
Gregory Marchini -- Recording & Mastering Engineer
Gregory became active as a musician in junior high school when he started playing trombone. He pursued his study of music throughout high school where he was a member of several student and community ensembles in the Monmouth county area.
Greg continued his music education at the University of Hartford's Hartt School in Hartford Connecticut, where he received a Bachelor of Music in Music Production and Technology. The Hartt program incorporates all of the requirements of a music degree including instrumental study, ensemble experience, music theory, and ear training, as well as extensive study in the latest music production and recording techniques. While at the university, Greg worked for the Hartt recording studio, recording and editing the vast number concerts and recitals that took place at the school, providing invaluable recording experience with a wide assortment of musical ensembles. Greg also served as chief engineer of WSAM, the University of Hartford's student radio station, and completed an internship with Producers Two, a voiceover studio in Hartford.
Through his classroom education as well as hands on experience Greg has gained extensive knowledge of recording techniques and equipment. He has a great familiarity with digital recording, and digital workstations including Pro-Tools, Fairlight, Digital Performer, WaveLab, and many others. Greg has been with Traveling Tracks since 2004, and is now serving in the capacity of Recording and Mastering Engineer.
Rob Shaffer
Like many recording engineers, Rob got his start as a musician. Though-out his youth, he performed in bands and orchestras playing guitar, bass, and percussion at schools in the Downingtown Area School District of Chester County, Pennsylvania. Jazz guitar and marching percussion were particularly important parts of his high school music participation, as were composing and performing original music in rock bands. His passion for music and technology fueled a natural transition to the recording field.
At the Hartt School of Music, where he studied Music Production and Technology, Rob worked as a principle engineer at the Hartt Recording Studio. Traditional music training, with a concentration in jazz guitar, rounded out his curriculum. Rob also worked independently recording students at the Hartt School, including work with the River Crossings Concert Series and the Quey Percussion Duo.
Rob has returned to work in the Greater Philadelphia region as a freelance musician, engineer, and producer.
Scott McKeown
Scott's entrance into the world of music began with the saxophone in elementary school. . Involvement in high school and community theatre sparked his interest in sound reinforcement and audio engineering while his musical involvement continued in various small and large ensembles.
Scott continued his study of recording and audio engineering at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA where he earned a degree in music with emphasis in Recording Technology. His studies included multi-track recording, digital audio editing, and electronic music, as well as traditional courses in music. LVC afforded Scott the opportunity to practice recording techniques on a variety of ensembles from orchestras to marching bands and many things in between. This study led to many recording and live production opportunities in the Central Pennsylvania area, working with groups like the Harrisburg Symphony, the Harrisburg Choral Society, B. B. King, Tower of Power, and Natalie Merchant.
Scott continues to work in the live production and sound reinforcement industry with Starlite Productions while pursuing his recording interest with Traveling Tracks.
Andrew Jaworski
Andrew's love of music began at the early age of 7, when he started taking guitar lessons. While he pursued learning the guitar, recreationally, he also played the trumpet throughout grammar and high school; in turn, he performed with as many different school ensembles as possible, including the concert band, wind symphony, jazz band, and marching band. By the age of 16, Andrew took on his own students and began giving private guitar lessons.
Currently, Andrew is furthering his study of the classical guitar at the Hartt School of Music, where he is majoring in Music Production and Technology. Likewise, he is a senior student member of the Hartt Recoding Studio staff where he has recorded such notable ensembles as the Hartt Symphony Orchestra, the Lion's Gate Trio, and the Miami String Quartet. Similarly, he also works independently as a recording engineer and specializes in recording live concerts, recitals, and studio sessions. In early 2007, Andrew joined the Traveling Tracks team, where he is both pursuing his professional goals and broadening his love of music.
Chris Schenk
A musician for over 20 years, Chris' love for music is rivaled only by his obsession for recording and audio production. Chris is a 2002 graduate of the School of Audio Engineering in Manhattan. At SAE, Chris learned modern recording and production techniques from several major label producers and engineers.
In 2003, Chris completed a one year internship as an assistant engineer at Indre Studios in Philadelphia. At Indre, Chris had the privilege of assisting on many of the broadcast sessions including Y100's Sonic Sessions, WXPN's Live at the World Cafe, and Behind the Beats with Kolby Kolb of the Beat. Chris also worked on numerous recordings from local musicians recording at the studio. Shortly after beginning his internship, Chris also began independently producing bands in the South Jersey area in his home studio, applying the knowledge taught to him by his mentors at SAE and Indre.
In 2004, Chris became a member of the Traveling Tracks team. In addition, Chris is also a freelance audio engineer/audio technician for several performing arts centers at colleges and universities throughout the state of New Jersey.
Patrick Kays
Patrick's music education began in the first grade, beginning with studies in classical piano and music theory with acclaimed National Piano Guild pianist Lillian O'Gorman. He has won the Chopin Award for classical piano as well as earning Piano Guild Member status for nine years. His piano studies have lead to musical endeavors in a wide range of instruments including drums, percussion, classical & modern guitar, as well as his primary instrument...bass. He is best known to fans as the bassist of Catch 22, a New Jersey based band with years of national as well as international touring experience. Patrick developed his interest in recording technology while working as a sound engineer for local independent music concerts. He has since started his own business as a live sound consultant and released numerous solo and group recordings of his own music.
Patrick fell into our lap by chance and has proven himself to be a valuable asset to our growing team of recording engineers with his positive outlook and attention to detail.
